I am principally a fiction write--five books, several anthologized stories, two prizes. But for purposes of this festival I am eager to talk to others about the terrific demands made on a writer when he/she joins a collaborative team including an artist, a composer, a digital designer, a programmer and four actors; and when that team sets out to construct a work for which there is yet no stable genre, no grammar, no syntax, no walls to butt up against except the ones made in the act of creation. Add to that the decision to work in several dimensions: space (image and scene), time (narrative and history), and depth (the unconscious and archetypal). How to create paradoxically a kind of moving, sounding, speaking mosaic with a myriad of pathways.
